This place is the shit when you just want to kick back and act like a honey badger (not give a shit).

Stopped in for a QUICK drink during St Pats day. There was a great live band playing in the back, otherwise I would have never known this place existed. It is a tiny shoe box shaped dive bar in North KC. We went in through the back gated patio to watch the band then walked through into the bar to grab some drinks. This is your typical dive bar with a few bar games (pool table) and some sports decoration. The people are friendly and all about having a good time. There are no pretenses here, just a bunch of people looking to make friends and party together. The patio is a great spot. There isn't much to look at outside the patio while you're drinking you beer, but on a nice day it is the perfect match to the dark inside of Pats. I would recommend this to people who like to be "regulars" at a small local pub that doesn't get much traffic other than friends and neighbors.

We ate at Pat's pub for lunch last week and it was really good. You can tell first of all by all the locals that pack Pat's pub, and the fact that the bartender knew everybody by name and their usual order. We took a seat in the back of the bar furthest from the door to avoid the cold when people came in and out. The bartender came around and asked what we wanted to drink and brought us quart sized mason jars full of our beverages. He gave us our menus and a few minutes to decide what we wanted. One had the taco burger which looked and smelled amazing, another coworker had the loaded nachos, and I had a tostada with meat and beans and a meat and bean burrito. I ordered two items because it said small and large, thinking small would mean I could eat two items. I was wrong, the smalls are still really big and really good. The tostada are hand fried in the back and then topped with beans and meat, the meat is really good the beans are okay. They have a mild red sauce and a spicy green jalapeno sauce that is the bomb! The bartender took great care of us and refilled our beverages, checked on us to see if we wanted dessert or anything else, and brought our checks promptly when we were ready to go. Also when I first sat down I wanted to order the shrimp but they weren't sure if the batter had dairy in it. They thought they had thrown the box out and didn't want to risk me getting sick so I ordered the burrito. Later the chef came out and had found the box and showed it to me and said next time you're in definitely have to have the shrimp there's no dairy. I thought that was above and beyond for the for the chef to go and find the box to see if I could eat the shrimp. This alone will make me come back.

Awesomely perfect neighborhood bar. This bar is exactly what I was looking for. It is friendly and the drinks are cheap. I didn't try the food but come on....the Monday special is ham and beans with cornbread for $4.50. This is a definite reason to re-visit! The ladies room is a single and small but super clean. I appreciate a bar that keeps the restrooms clean. I really liked this bar. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Pat's Pub is my favorite of the bars on the Swift Avenue dive bar row. It and River City Tavern are at the southern end of the strip, fairly isolated from the busier bars a few blocks north. Beer on tap is very cheap. There is also food here, but I haven't tried it yet and don't know what all they serve. In addition to the bar and dining area there is a new patio out back, and lately the bar has been hosting live music on Friday nights. (So far with no cover.) This is a very laid back place, and I enjoy dropping in from time to time on my way home from the bowling alley. My only complaint is with the hours. It is only open during the day on Saturday (unless they are hosting a special event), which is understandable given its location. But except for Friday nights the closing times are inconsistent. Sometimes I can stop in after bowling on Tuesday night, but most weeks it's already closed by the time I get over there at 9:00. Consistent hours could do a lot to help increase evening business. On the other hand, maybe Pat just wants to be able to go to sleep. :)

Cheap drinks and a kick ass staff. They have food, but I have never tried it. On weekends there is usually a band or dj.
